to sell my goods at the market

now a kid comes screaming down the causeway
i can hear him clearly say

a band of renegade ninja's are laying innocent people to waste

i stopped him and said what did you say
he said, "they're 6 miles south heading this way
with no regard for the laws of the land
or the temple's reverent gracious state"
i dropped everything and sprinted fast away
too far to run couldn't make it back in time
now the fields and villages are on fire
my wife's burnt in the fury before my very eyes

future is destroyed now
hope is blown away
too much for me to process
and try to handle today
same story always told
all over globe im afraid
whether pirates or drought, famine or plague
nothing can escape this maze they've made

a passerby waved from behind the trees
and said with a whisper and a worry
they just passed that way
i think you can still catch up to them if you hurry
i darted ever so fast away
feet sailing through the chilly air
revenge the only thing on my mind
i got no room left to spare

2 miles had passed before
i caught wind of their trail
they turned ever so east
i doubled back over the ridge-line to intercept these beasts
with strength we face
the enemy with might
and defeat so eloquently
our foes justly and right

reconvene in the palace
to discuss and prepare strategy and tactics
focus newfound time and space
ever calming inner state we wish to recreate
