I have written a song for Val & George . They live and farm in Hodgeville SK.
They have become very close to me, and I think of them as very good friends and not just in-laws.
I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, and saw the down fall of the small boat fishing. Where the little guys, that at one time could support a family, and keep a town alive, lost everything including their homes, as the town died around them.
This is why I wrote this song for Val & George.
Living in NS, I watched as union workers made pocketfuls of cash, just loading the grain on to huge ships that left loaded with life giving food.
It was when I met Val and George, and saw the work and hardship they suffered, to supply that grain. I realized how mush they have in common with the fishing back home.
The fishing down fall was caused by over fishing, impart to ships entering our, unprotected waters and just filling their holds. The farmer however is losing their homes to the middle man who fills their pockets, after doing nothing but reselling or trading the same grain.
This is just wrong, when they control, what farmers will grow, who they can sell to, how much they can sell, who the farmer can buy the seed from, and mostly the price they will pay the farmer. They have even controlled it to the point that farmers are forced into contracts to sell their crops years in advance, at todays prices, just so they can have seeds to plant.
